About

C’est Moi – Melissa Bond

My Professional Background

While my career has been varied, the one constant element has been my desire to work in people-centric environments. I started working in the Hospitality field after receiving a BA at UVIC. I returned to what was then Malaspina University-College to do a Diploma in Hospitality Management. I graduated at the top of my class.

After a few years in the Canadian Rockies, I took a contract to work as a civilian in Afghanistan, where I managed the Canadian Military Base in Kabul as if it were a very large hotel, with 2100 “guests”. I designed the structural closure of that camp and was one of the last civilians on site before returning to Vancouver Island. I was then hired to start operations, doing similar work, for the civilian contract at the Kandahar Airfield. If anyone has ever seen the TV show Role 3, it is very accurate. After completing my contract in Kandahar, I returned to Vancouver Island for some PTSD recovery. I was almost blown up by a rocket that went over my vehicle, and the fairly regular rocket attacks, and watching Ramp Ceremonies where bodies are repatriated to Canada, takes it toll on a person after several months.

Since then, I have continued to work in large team management settings. My most recent employers were Scouts Canada, where I supported 750 volunteers, and a local community services organization where I managed 14 programs that ranged from a homeless shelter and victim services to early years programs and seniors’ advocacy.
